Funny story: when I got these cards I was not even looking for another deck to add to my collection. I was walking aimlessly around Barnes and Noble and as usual, I ended up in the New Age/Metaphysical area. This deck wasn’t even in the tarot area, but in the book area and it was just staring at me.
What caught my eye is how it gave a modern twist to the Rider-Waite imagery, but also developed its own flavor. To start, no matter the individual or image shown on the deck, it is represented by a shadow or silhouette of a person. This allows the reader’s intuition to really take over because there are no facial expressions to go on thus allowing the reader to come up with their own story of the tarot—which is what we all should be doing anyway.
A beginner reader or a more advanced reader could use these cards without an issue as the silhouettes allow you to, as Pocahontas said, “paint with all the colors of the wind.” In other words, your imagination and intuition get to really come to center stage with this deck.
The deck comes with a mini-guide in which Steven lines out all the different meanings of the cards. But what is different is that he gives each card a voice. For example, looking at his description of the Knight of Swords, it reads, “I will rush into your life like a lightning flash. I am determination personified when I have an idea or opinion. I love to debate and hold court and can be amusing; but when provoked, I might become over-critical and lack sensitivity.” He then goes on to give a deeper explanation of the card’s meaning.
Honestly, this is my second favorite deck to use aside from the Gilded Tarot.
I highly recommend this deck!!!
