A lyric to one of my favorite songs goes,
“This world sometimes seems cruel and cold
And pain doth pierce my very soul
But there’s a place,
A secret place,
A place where I can go.”
A Secret Place by Karen Clark Sheard
Oftentimes, finding or getting to this secret place of spiritual peace and wholeness is altogether frustrating and cumbersome.
I’ve been speaking to a cousin of mine who has recently embarked on a spiritual journey to mark her 40th birthday. What she has found flies directly in the face of everything she was grown up being taught and believing. But it’s what works for her.
She said something poignant, “I realized that I could not do this alone. I needed help to get me along the journey.”
I think, myself included, require that help along our journey’s. We all need spiritual coaching.
Coaching is everywhere
Look no further than your local church or religious organization to realize that the concept of coaching is ever present. Ritualistic prayers and chanting, preaching, reading of holy texts, and one-on-one coaching are all employed to assist the seeker on their spiritual journey and help assist their growth.
A case of neglect
We go to doctors for our bodies, therapists for our minds, and seek religious validation for our souls. But oftentimes, that is not enough for our spirit. That part of us that seeks an open mind, ascended living, and seeing things through different eyes.
I can speak only for myself but I know when I was planted firmly in the church, the sermons only carried me so far into the day or week before their influence had waned somewhat. I needed more.
Oftentimes, our spirits are our greatest source of neglect because there is no one there challenging you directly to reach higher and maintain the reach.
Why you need spiritual coaching
Whatever your spiritual beliefs or religious organization, the end result is always the same: reach the highest good attainable for you in your life at that point in your life. Once reached, reach higher. Continue reaching.
But how do you continue reaching if you don’t know what to reach for your if you feel as if you’ve plateaued?
In spiritual coaching with me, I meet you where you are and I help you evaluate your goals. Where do you want to go? How do we get there? We will tell the absolute guttural truth. No sugarcoating. No walking on eggshells. We will see your role and participation in your circumstances.
Overarching themes of forgiveness and self-fullness (link) are easy to understand on an intellectual level, but arriving to them so you can leave the pain of the past behind and sit down those things that inhibit your growth are another.
The process of spiritual coaching is uncomfortable and asks you to go places you may not want to go. It may even cause you to dislike me. But the end result is total freedom for you so you can continue to ascend higher on your spiritual journey.
Is it simple? In theory, yes. In practical application, oftentimes no. It’s met with resistance and lack of self-awareness. But once this is uncovered, you can rest assured that you will have the tools to climb to the highest heights of your spiritual journey.
