Depending on your age, you may or may not remember these references. And I may have just dated myself! Haha! My sister used to always call in and then complain that she spent more time being on hold waiting for a psychic (exhausting those first few .99 minutes) before she got someone on the line.
These days, we are living in an age of on-demand media and the ability to skip ads and commercials. We have been conditioned to look past ads and become increasingly attached to our phones and tablets. While we enjoy being constantly connected by texting, social media, video chat, and email, we have moved away from away from the dependence and enjoyment of actually talking on the telephone. How many times have you found yourself saying to someone, “Text me later” or “I’ll text you later?” I’m finding that people even enjoy video chat more than they do actually talking on the telephone these days. It somehow feels like you just can’t get away when you’re talking on the phone.
The other forms of communication allow us a certain level of control in our interactions. We are not tied down and committed instantly as with a phone call. This is why I’m of the persuasion that psychic phone readings are a relic—outdated.
