The afterlife or the other side is one of the most fascinating spiritual concepts. It’s not my life’s calling or intention to debate whether life continue or ceases at death. It is my experience that it does; however, you’re fully entitled to believe as you’d like here. I’m not here to argue or debate at all.
Preparation to Crossover
We are all prepared for our transition prior to its occurrence by our team of spirit guides. Before we come to the Earth plane, we choose several exit points (which are really just specific junctures in which we feel as if our soul’s journey and learning for this lifetime has been complete) at which we transition back to the other side.
I’d like to share a story.
Before my grandfather died, he was in pretty shape in a nursing home. He had lost the ability to walk and had one of his feet amputated and was scheduled to have a leg amputated as well. Throughout it all, he kept a positive attitude, ever the joker and comedian. We could not ignore, however, was his incessant pleads of being tired and wanting to “go home to see my mama.”
His once jovial personality turned to that of quiet contemplation. He would often stare off into the distance and have that ‘the lights are on, but no one is at home’ glazed look on his face.
The week before he passed, he told us of visiting the afterlife. He said, “…y’all don’t understand. The colors are actually alive and so bright. I’ve never seen nothing like it. The colors here are so dull! I got to see my mama. I just came back to say goodbye because it’s time for me to go!”
From then on, he was mute. He stopped eating and was being fed by a tube.
The night before he passed, we all sat in the hospital with him at his bedside. I have a fairly large family and we knew he loved laughing, so we sat in the room with him and, after crying at the eventuality of his passing, we laughed into the wee hours of the morning. Several times, he opened his eyes, but again, no one was home. He stared off into the distance and moved his lips as if he were talking to someone we could not see.
By 3 a.m. we all decided to go home to get some rest to return to the hospital the next day. The last family member left at 6 a.m. and 20 minutes after she left, my grandfather made his transition to the other side.
I was at home, fast asleep unaware of his passing except for this: I had a dream that my grandfather, much younger, came to me in a big open, deserted room. He had on a derby and was smiling. Very happy.
“Pawpaw,” I asked.
He looked at me, tipped his hat, shook his head ‘yes’, and kept on walking until I could no longer see him.
I was comforted by this and knew he was okay. Shortly after, I was awakened by my mom and she told me the news. I told her the dream and she shared that dream at the funeral.
What Happens When We Die?
I asked this question to my main spirit guide Sarai. I won’t lie—even in this line of work, I still have a fear of the eventuality of death. Yes, I know, it’s a part of life and inevitable. But still it frightens me. Sarai has repeatedly assured me it shouldn’t.
She explained that we are prepared by our team of guides before our death. We know the death is coming and it is their jobs to help us accept and come to terms with it. In the case of those sudden deaths (like car accidents), these are what we call exit points that we set on the spirit plane before we ever come to Earth.
When our soul has learned all its come to learn and accomplish, we are given the opportunity to exit at various points.
When we leave this Earthly dimension, the connection that binds us here is severed and our soul leaves the body permanently and we begin the process of entering the white light of God through a tunnel.
This white light is brilliantly resplendent and is described as feeling like warmth and love without judgment. It is here we bid our farewells to the Earth plane and return home.
At the end of this tunnel, we are met by our loved ones and spirit guides (who have been with us all our lives) who comfort us and welcome us to the other side. At this point, we still have some earthly attachments and may be torn about having transitioned.
We are then whisked away by our guides for healing and restoration. It is during this time that we are the most actively returning to the earth plane to visit those we left behind.
During these visitations, you will have the opportunity to observe what your absence does to everyone and what people truly think of you–but without any of the negative emotion or baggage. You actually get to feel and see things from their perspective. You may even attend your own funeral.
Once you’ve said your goodbye’s, you return for yet more healing and to review your life.
What was this goal of this lifetime? Did we accomplish that?
What lessons did we come to learn? Did we learn every one?
What lessons did we fail to learn? Which lessons have we yet to learn?
Has there been a theme or pattern among all of your lifetimes?
What do we have yet to learn that we can learn our next lifetime should we decide to return?
Reincarnation
It’s hard for most people (myself included, initially) to conceive that we we live more than one lifetime on Earth.
Our souls are constantly growing, learning, expanding, and evolving. This is why we come to LifeSchool; learning for spiritual and soul development and advancement.
I wrote an article reviewing Many Life, Many Masters by Dr. Brian Weiss called Many Lives, Many Masters that dives into the concept of life after death and reincarnation. It’s a brilliant book that makes this very complex and complicated topic palatable and easy to understand–and accept.
