I’ll be the first to admit that psychic mediumship is probably one of the coolest and most inspiring of the psychic gifts. The two, though, aren’t mutually exclusive. What does that mean? That means you can be a psychic and not be a medium.
It’s kind of like we learned in school: all kangaroos are marsupials but not all marsupials are kangaroos. In the same way, all mediums are psychic but not all psychics are mediums.
A medium is a person who has the ability to communicate with those who have passed on into the afterlife.
A psychic is a person whose senses and intuition are acutely attuned to receive time-based (past, present, and future) messages and information that go unnoticed or unacknowledged by most people.
As a practicing psychic medium, I can certainly say that performing medium readings are certainly more taxing than doing psychic readings.
Spirit and spiritual energy vibrates at a much higher rate than the energy here on the Earth plane. Thus, as a medium, two things must happen: Spirit has to lower their vibration and mediums must increase theirs. Where the two meet is at a happy medium or in the middle.
Medium readings take a lot out of the reader! For this reading, mediums must do grounding and protection practices and meditations regularly in order to keep their energy levels constant. Even this does not ensure that the medium will not experience some sort of energetic fatigue.
So often I hear, “I’d give anything for just one more moment with my loved one.” Everyone wants closure after the death of a loved one.
I understand that sentiment more than most. As a practicing psychic medium, my brother who passed away in 1999 has only come to me once and that was the night that he passed away. His death is surrounded in a shroud of mystery and my family still doesn’t have the answers we desire, but have accepted that as a family.
In a medium reading, know that just because you want grandma, for example, to come through to speak doesn’t mean that she actually will. They do not lose their personality or will simply because they’ve transition to the afterlife.
Imagine this: someone calls you to the telephone and it’s not someone you want to speak to at the moment so you decline to answer the call. It is the same way with Spirit. Grandma may not come to the spiritual phone because uncle George (bear with me as I #fail at making up names haha) may feel he has something more important to say. Or he just may be a louder and more boisterous personality.
Trust the process. Someone may come through in the reading that you do not even know. It may be a message for someone else in your life or circle. Think of it this way: imagine Spirit being in another country that speaks a different language. They can freely communicate with one another but find it challenging to communicate with anyone else because, although they’re speaking, they can’t be heard or understood. However, they really desire to communicate something to someone, but the language barrier. Now imagine that you walk in and you’re able to speak and understand the language.
The moment they recognize you can speak the message, they’re going to flock to you. Some people may even push to the front of the line and push others out of the way. This is what it is like as a medium.
I am a huge advocate that one should never seek out a medium reading if they have not grieved and mourned the loss of their loved one.
Not everyone that says they’re a medium is honest or have integrity. There are those that seek to exploit your grief and clouded mental state and try to pump you dry of any cash. If it feels wrong, it is wrong. Run far away from these people.
It is my personal policy that I will not do mediumship readings for ANYONE if the passing is recent or the person has not grieved and mourned the loss (and if necessary, spoken with a counselor).
I know the pain of the loss, either expected or unexpected, is a lot to deal with and to take, but trust me, you will be better off if you wait and allow yourself a bit of time to heal before getting a reading.

Most of the readings I do are psychic and tarot readings. I typically do readings via text message or email for a very good reason: I like the person I’m reading for to have a transcript to refer back to long after the reading is over.
Typically, psychic readings do not take near the amount of energy that a mediumship reading takes. Using my psychic gift, I have to tune into my natural clairvoyance while using tarot cards to build the bones of the reading.
Still, psychics need to take the same precautionary measures as a medium in grounding and protection meditations and practices. It’s best practice as a psychic to stay clear, protected, and grounded so you can provide the best guidance and information as possible.
What if I told you that you already are? What if I told you that you were on the right track, baby, you were born that way? Okay, enough Lady Gaga! Honestly though! You were born psychic! We all are.
Most civilizations worldwide (even those in the most remote locations, untouched by the modern world), all have some concept of spirituality and prophecy. This is no coincidence. The methods may all be different, but the end result is the same.
As we grow, learn, mature, and rack up life experiences, we are turned away from and begin to reject those things we deem childish or improbable. Because spiritual things aren’t happening to us or the people we know, we tend to dismiss them. This is what happens with psychic gifting. We are told as children that we are making things up; to color inside the lines; the sky can’t be colored green, but has to be colored blue.
As we grow, our connection to our natural psychic gift weakens if it’s not encourage. Watch a baby as it talks with and smiles at something/someone who isn’t there. It’s likely conversing with its spirit guides!
When I first started along this journey, the internet was in its infancy and I had to do a lot of the heavy lifting myself and figure out what this gift was, why it chose me, and what I could do to manage it.
Because of that, I have compiled a few recommendations for you on how to begin reactivating and strengthening your psychic gift. I am always adding to this list, so if there is a resource you want to see added, please let me know.
